ABOUT THIS WEB SITE

THE PURPOSE OF THIS SITE

Welcome to the Elements of Physical Chemistry Web Site. This site is intended as a supplemental resource for the users of the textbook Elements of Physical Chemistry, Second Edition, by Peter Atkins.

This site was developed and is maintained by W. H. Freeman and Company in association with Sumanas, Inc. Freeman also has a company Web site, which contains information about the titles we publish--including a respected list of books in chemistry. We also have a Web site for the new general chemistry textbook Chemistry: Molecules, Matter, and Change, Fourth Edition, by Loretta Jones and Peter Atkins, which we invite you to visit.

FEATURES OF THE SITE

The features of this site are divided into two sections. "About the Book" contains information about the textbook, Elements of Physical Chemistry, and would be of interest to anyone unfamiliar with the book who would like to know more about it. Specifically, it contains the detailed Table of Contents, Dr. Atkins's Preface to the Second Edition, and an "About the Author" section that gives biographical information on Dr. Atkins.

"Educational Resources" contains download-able files of all the figures from the textbook. These can be downloaded from the Web site for use with your presentation software for display during your lectures. An additional benefit to these features is that color has been added to each figure by Peter Atkins (who created the art for his textbook).
