Teacher Training Opportunities Available for ChemCom!

There are many chances to ensure successful implementation of ChemCom in your classroom. Here is a list of workshop opportunities available to you as an adopter of the new fourth edition of CHEMCOM:

  1. Education Development Center
  2. The EDC Science Curriculum Dissemination Center is a network of regional sites designed to introduce school districts to exemplary science instructional materials. The center targets school districts with limited previous exposure to exemplary standards based curricula and/or little experience with national science education reform efforts. They will be holding seminars of which ChemCom will be discussed and representatives from the American Chemical Society will be attending.

For more information about the EDC workshops please go to http://www.edc.org

  3. SCI Center
  4. For high schools and districts committed to science reform. The SCI center offers a three-year professional development experience through the National Academy for Curriculum Leadership. Leadership teams will progress through the key stages of selection, adoption, and impact as they implement a NSF-funded science curriculum.

For more information, application information and deadlines contact the SCI Center at http://www.bscs.org

  5. The American Chemical Society
  6. The American Chemical Society sponsors professional development workshops in the summer.

  7. If you have adopted the new fourth edition of ChemCom or are seriously considering adoption in the next year,

the American Chemical Society and W.H. Freeman will sponsor daylong workshops. To qualify for a daylong workshop you must provide the location that is appropriate for hands on activities and 20-30 high school chemistry teachers in your community. ChemCom workshops acquaint you with the ChemCom teaching philosophy, its laboratory program, along with various other teaching strategies like cooperative learning for chemistry classrooms.
