Chapter
1. Section 1, Figure 23 Pg. 8 (ET)
What it shows: A precalculus Dynamic Figure
in which the parabola

moves up/down and left/right.
Benefit: Students see the graph and can
manipulate it themselves.
The result

is routine; now students will get a better understanding
of what this figure shows.
Chapter
4. Section 5, Figure 3 Pg. 162 (ET)
What it shows: The function has an increasing
first derivative which evolves from negative to positive.
A display of the tangent line is accompanied by a graph
of two curves (the first and second derivatives).
Benefit: In this complicated and standard
situation of beginning calculus, students can explore how
the first and second derivatives describe the shape of the
curve.
Chapter
5. Section 8, Figure 10 Pg. 345 (ET)
What it shows: Students must use additivity
and symmetry to find the centroid of a region.
Benefit: Students can manipulate the triangle
scale and circle scale to help visualize computing a centroid
and see the sums of the moments equal the moment of the
region.
