What course areas exist within LabPartner?
Currently, LabPartner is available in Biology, Chemistry, and Geology. However, we are working hard to develop LabPartner in other course areas, which we hope to launch soon. If there's a course area you're particularly interested in, please e-mail us at labpartner@whfreeman.com and let us know!
What happens after I confirm my order to create a custom lab manual?
You will receive an email within 48 hours, providing an ISBN for your newly created manual. Once you provide that ISBN to the bookstore and Freeman Custom Publishing receives its order, the manuals will be printed. Your bookstore must send us a purchase order before we can begin printing.
How much will the manual cost?
In the LabPartner system, you can see the cost of your manual in the upper right corner of the screen as you build it. As you add or delete material, the price automatically adjusts. Our net base price is $8.00 plus 9 cents per page for black/white printing and 14 cents per page for color printing. Original material you provide will be printed in black/white at a net price of 7 cents per page. The minimum price for a manual is $15.00 net.
Note that additional features such as carbonless graph paper, pocket folders, and printing on the inside cover add to the price; pricing for these features is clearly listed within the system.
Please note that if your manual includes any color pages, the entire manual must be printed on a color press at a price of 14 cents per page. For this reason, LabPartner offers the option of printing color pages in black/white to keep the student price as low as possible.
How long will it take to publish?
Depending on the option you have chosen, it will take anywhere from 15 to 30 business days from the receipt of the bookstore order. In order to receive manuals in time for classes, we advise bookstores to place their order with customer service five - six weeks prior to the class start date.
Note that bundling your manual with a Freeman textbook can save students money, but the bundling process can also add one or two weeks to order processing time. If you would like to bundle, please ask your bookstore to order early.
Do I have to clear permissions?
If you are including material in your manual that another publisher holds rights to, you will be responsible for clearing permissions. This includes photos and art that you have borrowed from an outside source to appear within your original material. Please see our Submission Guidelines for more details on the permission process.

Can I bundle my custom lab manual with a textbook?
Yes. Bundling custom lab manuals with our texts entitles your students to a 10% discount. The bundling process adds one or two weeks to the time required to fulfill bookstore orders. If you decide to bundle, please advise your bookstore to order early.
How long will it take to reprint my custom lab manual?
Creating custom labs through our database is a print-on-demand service. As such, we do not begin to produce the custom manuals until bookstore orders are received, and we print only enough to fulfill the current orders in place. Therefore, a reprint takes the same amount of time as the initial printing – 15 to 60 business days.
Why is LabPartner available only to U.S. and Canadian Customers?
Due to the print-on-demand nature of the custom publishing program, W.H. Freeman is currently unable to ship custom-published materials internationally in a timely fashion.
