Problem-Solving Guide with Solutions by Timothy A. French, DePaul University
The Problem-Solving Guide with Solutions takes a unique approach to promoting students’ problem-solving skills by providing detailed and annotated solutions to selected problems. Unlike other solutions manuals, this guide follows the “Set-up,” “Solve,” and “Reflect” format outlined in the Worked Examples in the text for worked-out solutions to selected odd-numbered End-of-Chapter problems in the textbook. It also includes integrated media icons which point to selected problem-solving tools that can be accessed.

Student Workbook
This workbook helps students put conceptual concepts from the text into practice before applying them to homework problems. Short exercises highlight the main goals in each chapter section, allowing students to develop the skills they need to apply these concepts when problem-solving. By reiterating the key concepts, problem-solving strategies, and learning objectives from the main text, the workbook allows students to build the confidence they need to successfully tackle homework problems.

PREMIUM MEDIA RESOURCES

LearningCurve incorporates adaptive question selection, personalized study plans, and state-of-the-art question analysis reports in activities with a game-like feel that keeps students engaged with the material. Integrated e-Book sections give students additional exposure to the course text. An innovative scoring system ensures that students who need more help with the material spend more time quizzing themselves than students who are already proficient.

P’Casts are videos that emulate the face-to-face experience of watching an instructor work a problem. Using a virtual whiteboard, the P’Casts’ tutors demonstrate the steps involved in solving key worked examples, while explaining concepts along the way. The worked examples were chosen with the input of physics students and instructors across the country. P’Casts can be viewed online or downloaded to portable media devices.

Interactive Exercises are active learning, problem-solving activities. Each Interactive Exercise consists of a parent problem accompanied by a Socratic-dialog “help” sequence designed to encourage critical thinking as users do a guided conceptual analysis before attempting the mathematics. Immediate feedback for both correct and incorrect responses is provided through each problem-solving step.

Picture Its help bring static figures from the text to life. By manipulating variables within each animated figure students visualize a variety of physics concepts. Approximately 50 activities are available.

INSTRUCTOR RESOURCES

Computerized Test Bank
The Test Bank offers over 2,000 multiple-choice questions, tackling both core Physics concepts and various life- science applications. While the Test Bank is also available in downloadable Word files on the book companion website, the easy-to-use CD includes Windows and Macintosh versions of the widely used Diploma test generation software, allowing instructors to add, edit, and sequence questions to suit their testing needs.

Electronic Instructor Resources
Instructors can access valuable teaching tools through www.whfreeman.com/universityphysics1e. These password-protected resources are designed to enhance lecture presentations, and include Textbook Images (available in .JPEG and PowerPoint format), Clicker Questions, Lecture PowerPoints, Instructor Solutions, Biology Appendix, and more.

Course Management System Cartridges
W. H. Freeman provides seamless integration of resources in your Course Management Systems. Four cartridges are available (Blackboard, WebCT, Desire2Learn, and Angel), and other select cartridges (Moodle, Sakai, etc.) can be produced upon request.
