New Chapter on Biotechnology
A new chapter on recombinant DNA technology, plant biotechnology, and genomics (Chapter 10). This chapter brings in new applications from the
frontiers of today’s research, including golden rice, herbicide-resistant and
pesticide-resistant crop plants, and transgenic papaya.
Thoroughly updated throughout, including:
• A fully updated Angiosperm Evolution chapter (Chapter 20) including the first textbook accounts of Archaefructus (the first fully documented fossil), and
the New Caledonian shrub Amborella.
• Updated Diversity Section (Section 4: Chapters 12-21) incorporating major changes in the classification of protists (primarily algae) and seedless vascular plants.
• Revised Hormones chapter (Chapter 27) with significant new information from studies of Arabidopsis mutants, notably on the transport and role of auxin in plant growth and development.
